3 cops shot dead in Baton Rouge, 3 wounded - Update

Gavin Eugene Long
The Baton Rouge shooter has been identified as 29-year-old  Gavin Eugene Long. He did not live in the area, but came into the city from Kansas City, Missouri. Long was wearing black with his face covered, and began firing with an assault rifle at 8:40 a.m Sunday morning near Hammond Aire Plaza. He was wearing body armor.

No motive for the shooting has been made public. Long was a former marine. When a reporter went to the most recent listed address for Long in Kansas City a man answered the door with an AK-47. Long had ties to the 'New Freedom Movement'.

Three Baton Rouge police were killed and three others wounded Sunday, less than two weeks after a black man was shot and killed by police. One suspect was killed and two others might be at large.

A man dressed in black and with his face covered began shooting indiscriminately after walking out of a convenience store and car wash. Several gunshots can be heard ringing out one by one. Then a dramatic flurry of shots can be heard as the shootout intensifies.
